Sibling and Love

‘Bring me a glass of water’
‘Why cant you get it for yourself?’
‘Because I am elder than you’

“I will watch Roadies now, your cartoon watching time is over’
‘Why? I didn’t even watch for 15 minutes’
‘Because I am elder than you’

‘Mom loves me more than she loves you’
‘Why? Because you are elder than me?’
‘No silly. It’s because you were adopted’

No matter how old we get, elders always remain elder than us. When I was a small girl, my twelve year old elder sister, who was five years elder than me used to tease me like I mentioned above. I promised myself that when I become twelve years old, we will be of the same age and I will tease her as well. Little did I know of the ways of growing up.
A relationship so sweet that you can call it sassy and modest at the same time. We learn to share. To live as a team. To save each other from unwanted situations.  To survive the deadly parent attacks. We learn to live together.
However, Indian cinema and serials say otherwise. They show a family dispute and the root cause of it arises from the fact that the younger sibling is jealous of the elder. The young rebel, make bad life decisions, contempt the elder’s advises, cuss parents and turns evil whenever he sees someone happy in the house. Why? This truly depicts a bad format of family structure. The jealous young one has complaints regarding everything that’s surrounding him. He is shown as an ungrateful brat while the elder toils in the sun to make a living. Are these based on true events? How can two persons from same mother be so different that it leads to a blood battle (as shown in movies)? How can the younger one be always the villain and the victim.
As the youngest member of my family, I find every Indian serial offensive. It’s a bad message being sent to the families who watch as the young ones be the trouble maker. Maybe they could show the chemistry and friendship between the siblings for a change. Movies leave a serious effect on the young minds.
Negativity is like a disease which spreads quickly.
