It is not always about the money. Sometimes in life, you expect to be loved and remembered. A certain incident which happened to me recently has made me realize that people who sell their soul for money are the ones who pay the price.
A certain family owed me 1.5k bucks. Being a student, I hope the reader can realize that 1.5k is a pretty big amount for me. It was my own hard earned tuition money. I had to leave unexpectedly due to my health deterioration. I was hospitalized for 10 days, was treated in ICU and HDU sections of the Apollo hospital. So, it was not that I left voluntarily.
Little details about the family of three:
1. They have one cute Labrador and one Alsatian, one kitten, two fishes.
2. They live in the heart of Kolkata
3. They celebrate anniversaries, birthdays and other fucked up celebrations in buffets (which doesn’t cost less than 1000 rupees per head)
4. The father owns a freaking Royal Enfield
So, one can get the idea that they are financially quite stable. I had to leave all of my tuitions and become a stay at home college student for three to four months. The last month’s fees were due and the guardian promised me that he will pay it when I visit them once I am recovered. Each time I visited, they would put up an excuse of how they don’t have cash at this moment. Gradually the kid’s mother wouldn’t pick up my calls and I got the cue that they intend never to pay me back the money they owe.
At this point, I have many options left with me:
1. Write on their facebook wall, ‘reminding’ them about the amount that is due.
2. Show up at their door step (which I did already, but this time unannounced)
3. Humiliate them in front of my 10 year old student
4. Create a flat tire on his precious motorcycle
5. Run away with the kitten
6. Forget about the money
I’d go for the 6th option. Not because I am a complete coward (which I am, a bit) but for the reason that they would remember me.
1. Each time they dine at an expensive restaurant, they would think of the amount of money they saved by ignoring me
2. Each time the dad buys his son a toy or a book, he would remember how he duped me into not giving me the thousand bucks
3. Each time they hire a new tutor, they will remember the tutor who taught their son for free for a month
4. Each time his son steals money from his wallet, he will remember how he stole from me
5. Each time he suffers from illness and buys expensive medicine, he would wish how he shouldn’t have taken away my right
Money come and go. In near future, I will get a job and won’t remember what happened 10 years ago. However, he will. So, the jokes on him.
